Dr. Siamak Zarei Qanavati, born in 1977, is an ophthalmologist and surgeon, full professor of the Department of Ophthalmology, Director of International Affairs at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, and a core member of the Board of Directors of the Iranian Ophthalmological Society. He holds a subspecialty fellowship in corneal surgery, refractive errors, and cataracts from UCLA, USA, a subspecialty fellowship in superficial eye diseases and keratoprosthesis from the University of Miami, USA, and a subspecialty fellowship in anterior segment surgery.
He is ranked second in the country's pre-internship and ranked in the top 1% of the university. In the 2000 specialty assistant exam, among about 12,000 participants, he won first place in the country by a significant margin. In 2006, he won first place in the country's specialty board (first place in the oral and written board), and at that time he participated in the International Ophthalmology Association exam, which was held all over the world with the presence of participants including Europe and America (about 92 countries), and won first place in the world.
His international achievements include the Fellowship Award from the International Society of Ophthalmology for a subspecialty course at the University of Miami (UN) in 2011, the Helmrich Fellowship Award for the first time in 2010 for a subspecialty fellowship course at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) in the United States (since 2010, this award has been given to two selected international ophthalmologists to continue their studies in an advanced specialty course at the world's top ophthalmology training centers), the title of International Ophthalmologist Scientist by the International Society of Ophthalmology in 2007, first place in the Advanced ICO exam and obtaining the FICO title in 2010, and first place in the International Board of Ophthalmology (ICO) exam among 1,647 ophthalmologists from 92 countries.
In 2010, he won the $23,000 Helmerich Award for the first time worldwide and went to the United States to complete a one-year fellowship in corneal transplantation and refractive surgery at UCLA. At the end of this course, he won the ICO Fellowship Award and was sent to the Bascom Palmer Advanced Ophthalmology Center at the University of Miami for a fellowship in superficial eye diseases and keratoprosthesis (artificial cornea).
After returning from the United States, he succeeded in launching the International Cornea Fellowship program with the authorization of the International Ophthalmology Association (ICO). For this purpose, after extensive consultations with prominent figures in ophthalmology in the world, Professor Gable, President of the International Ophthalmology Association, traveled to Mashhad and after his final approval, Mashhad University became one of the international centers for training subspecialty students from all over the world. The launch of the international ophthalmology fellowship course was carried out for the first time in the country, and in this regard, we are the third center in the Middle East. He won the Shahid Motahari Festival Award for writing the curriculum for the subspecialty program of the International Cornea Fellowship and Refractive Surgery.
Due to research activities and the publication of over 100 scientific research articles (۵۰ مقاله ISI , PubMed) And has H–Index 12 has twice been awarded the title of the university's top researcher and won the top rank in clinical sciences at the Razi National Festival in 2012.. So far, he has published 4 books, including the chapter on ocular stem cells in the International Cornea Reference Book. In 2016, he completed an advanced course in corneal transplantation and eye banking in the United States and succeeded in registering a patent on this matter, which was published in the journal British Journal It has been published and, by the decree of the respected president of the university, he is the executor of the establishment of the Mashhad University Eye Bank and has currently been the head of the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences Eye Bank for two years.. The aforementioned person has given more than 60 national and international scientific lectures and presentations so far.
In 2020, Dr. Siamak Zarei Qanavati was awarded the title of Persian Ophthalmologist by the Professor Shams Ophthalmology Foundation and the Farabi National Congress in recognition of his international honors and brilliant international activities for the Iranian Ophthalmological Society.
